Flintshire-based firm testing the ground for Awel y Môr

A Flintshire-based company has been playing a key role in preconstruction work for Awel y Môr as the project finalises plans for its onshore cable route.

Geotechnics has been conducting ground investigations work on the land which will eventually host Awel y Môr’s underground connection to its onshore substation.

The business employs around 100 people, and offers field-based sampling, testing, lab testing and desk-based reporting alongside other site investigations services to help design works and reduce risks before construction works take place.

Paul Hayes, Managing Director, said: “We have been thrilled to be part of Awel y Môr, which as it progresses offers a huge opportunity for north Wales.

“The renewable energy industry is a growing area for our business, which has also been called upon to aid projects including other decarbonisation projects, but also pipelines, cable routes, aqueducts, highways and urban redevelopments.

“Having set our own plans to reach net zero in line with UK Government targets, it’s very satisfying to be part of what is a major piece of the puzzle for decarbonising energy in our own part of the world.”
